Specializing in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Dr. Kieran Rowe holds distinctive expertise in the fields of hand surgery, head and neck surgery, and microsurgery.

He kick-started his educational journey by earning top honors (Dux) at the Anglican Church Grammar School, which led to his representation of Australia at the International Chemistry Olympiad, securing a silver medal. Dr. Rowe pursued his medical studies at The University of Melbourne, where he was awarded a full residential scholarship from Trinity College. His accomplishments include earning an MBBS, a BMedSci, and a DipMus in clarinet.

Inclined toward surgery early in his career, Dr. Rowe undertook his initial training at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, advancing to general surgery training in 2008. His passion for Plastic Surgery was evident, and he embarked on a PhD journey under the mentorship of Prof Wayne Morrison, a renowned figure in the field, which segued into his specialized training in Plastic Surgery in 2012.

His training journey in Plastic Surgery began in Melbourne with a particular focus on hand surgery. Eventually, Dr. Rowe returned to his hometown, Brisbane, where he expanded his knowledge and skills at prominent Plastic Surgery centers including the Princess Alexandra Hospital, Royal Brisbane Hospital, and Mater Hospital.

During his training, he delved into the finer details of hand surgery, amassing experience in managing significant hand trauma cases as well as various other aspects of hand surgery, both emergent and elective. Under the guidance of eminent practitioners like Dr. Vedella Hinckley and Dr. William Cockburn at the Royal Brisbane Hospital, Dr. Rowe refined his skills in head and neck cancer resection and with Head and Neck Reconstructive Surgeons at both the Royal Brisbane and Princess Alexandra Hospital.

In addition to clinical practice, Dr. Rowe remains actively engaged in research, a fact that earned him the prestigious Emmett Prize for the best research presentation in Plastic and reconstructive surgery. Currently, he is wrapping up his PhD focused on adipose tissue engineering.

Dr. Rowe achieved his fellowship in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and actively contributes to the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons as a member.

As part of his continued involvement with the medical community, Dr. Rowe is a member of the Head and Neck MDT at the Royal Brisbane Hospital and the Hand Clinic at the same institution. Following the footsteps of his mentors, he plays a key role in shaping future plastic surgeons as the Director of Training at The Royal Brisbane Hospital. In addition to his clinical duties, Dr. Rowe serves as an Associate Lecturer at the University of Queensland, taking pleasure in mentoring the surgeons of tomorrow.

Dr. Rowe remains at the forefront of Plastic Surgery techniques through his active participation in the Queensland Chapter of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons and regular attendance at conferences both domestically and internationally. Currently, he holds the position of President for the Queensland Chapter of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons.
